Ozone treatment

Stubborn odours such as cigarette smoke, fuel, mould, wet dog or food are nearly impossible to remove with regular cleaning. An ozone treatment tackles the smell at the source — at the molecular level — and neutralises it completely, without perfumes that merely mask the odour.

How ozone works

Ozone (O₃) is an unstable oxygen molecule: as soon as it contacts an odour molecule, a bacterium or a mould spore, the third oxygen atom breaks off and oxidises whatever it reacts with. What’s left is regular oxygen (O₂) and a broken-down — therefore odourless — compound.

This makes an ozone treatment fundamentally different from perfume or air freshener:

• Perfume layers a second smell over the first. The original comes back.
• Ozone breaks the original down. It doesn’t come back.

What we treat

• Cigarette and cigar smoke that’s seeped into upholstery, the headliner and the ventilation system.
• Food odours — fast food, milk, spilled meals, fish.
• Animal smells — wet dog, urine stains, cat odour.
• Mould and mustiness in cars that sat unused or after water damage.
• Fuel and oil smells in the cabin from a leaking petrol can or oil bottle.

We place an ozone generator inside the car, close all doors and windows, and let the cabin saturate for 30 to 60 minutes. The A/C runs so the ozone reaches the ventilation system and evaporator too — often a hidden source of odour.

After treatment

We ventilate thoroughly afterwards. The ozone itself decays back to oxygen within about half an hour and leaves no residue. You’ll notice immediately that the cabin smells fresh — without a synthetic perfume layer.

Safety

Ozone in high concentrations irritates the airways. We work with sealed cabins during treatment, ventilate sufficiently before handing the car back, and never have anyone inside while the generator is running.

Smell is almost always a symptom

An ozone treatment on its own works best in combination with an interior deep clean or our Premium/Deluxe interior package. A cleaned interior where the physical odour sources have already been removed stays fresh much longer than one that only gets ozone.

How long does it take?

The treatment itself 30 to 60 minutes, plus ventilation time. We often schedule ozone right after an interior clean so you’re done in one appointment.
